Eastern-Eurovision Song Contest

Poor old Andy Abraham came last with 14 points in this years' Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade last night. No surprise there then. You could get Sir Cliff, Katrina & The Waves or Bucks Fizz back (not that you would really want to) and we'd not do any better. I have no problems with our European neighbours, but with so may of the former Soviet states giving Russia 12 points for fear of getting their supply gas cut off and voting for each other because of geography rather than musical merit (not that there was much of that last night... did you see the Latvian Pirate song?!), now is the time to leave them all to it.

Why not start again with only the proper 27 European countries allowed to enter (obviously the new European countries such as Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania could decide if they what to join in with us or not). It would be nice to have Italy back again who saw the light years ago and stopped bothering to enter, and for Norway to get the "nul points" rather than us.

With the BBC covering 40% of the costs of staging the contest each year - some several million pounds - and with there being no point of the UK or any western European country entering due to political voting, and even Sir Terry considering quitting, something needs to be done to sort out what has effectively become the "Eastern-Eurovision" Song Contest.
